(1) The Adam Smith Division which is open to students enrolled in (or completed) Advanced Placement Economics (Macro or Micro), honors economics, a two semester high school economics, or any other advanced economics courses during the current academic year. (2) The David Ricardo Division is for students enrolled in (or completed) a one semester high school economics course, consumer economics, personal finance course, or related disciplines such as social studies, business, or family and consumer sciences during the current academic year. The Challenge actually consists of four stages: The Iowa EconChallenge ONLINE!, the Iowa Economics Challenge State Finals, the National Semi-Finals, and the National Economics Challenge Competition. 1. The Iowa EconChallenge Online! is first and is completed by students online. 2. Next, the top four teams in each division from the Iowa EconChallenge Online! are invited to Cedar Falls to compete in the Iowa Economics Challenge State Finals in Cedar Falls on March 13, 2013. The state champions and runner-up teams in each divisions will receive trophies. 3. The state champions in each division then compete in the National Economics Challenge Semi-Finals.This will be a proctored exam administered at each state champion's home high school on Tuesday, April 16. 4. The four winning teams from across the country in each division will advance to the National EconomicsChallenge Championship. The National Finals will take place in New York City the weekend of May 17-19. The National Economics Challenge is made possible by a grant from the Council on Economic Education and the US Department of Education. |
