UNIBusiness provides
funding for students to intern at nonprofits
In early 2011, a new scholarship gave
UNIBusiness
students an opportunity to remove
the financial
impediment of unpaid internships. Three UNI Econ students
received scholarships.
Kristi Phillips (Economics) will intern with Muchas Manos Light
Work. Muchas Manos is focused on providing financial aid and
educational assistance to the Matagalpa Region of Nicaragua. While
working for Muchos Manos, Phillips will create a business
enhancement plan for Nueva Vida, an organic sewing cooperative. She
will spend two weeks in May helping the business owners implement
the new ideas.
Thomas Gage
(Economics) will continue his internship with Iowa Legal Aid. The
organization provides free legal help and
information on civil law problems for eligible Iowans in every
county of the state. Gage's internship involves screening and
working with clients to gather information prior to them receiving
legal help.
