UNI Advances to NIBS Championship Round |
|
For the second consecutive year, the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) will be represented in the Championship Round of the NIBS Case Analysis Competition. The College of Business is sponsoring the 4-student team. In 2002, UNI sent the first U.S. team to participate in the Championship Round to New Zealand.
Only 8 teams are selected from the Qualifying Round held in November. Over 60 universities worldwide belong to the NIBS network of International Business Schools. Each of the universities has the opportunity to compete in the Qualifying Round for the opportunity to participate in the weeklong Championship Round.
The 2002 Champions host this year’s competition, Bishop’s University in Lennoxville,
Canada near Montreal. The team leaves March 15 from UNI and will
return March 23. UNI’s team is very diverse both ethnically and
in focus of study. All team members are associated with the International
Club of Business Students (ICBS).

- Jeff McQuillen is Management Information Systems major from Dubuque.
He is a senior that will be studying in France for his Masters of
International Business next fall. Currently, Jeff is president of
the ICBS.
- Ryan Moberg is a senior majoring in Supply Chain Management. He is from Red Oak, Iowa.
- Janet Ramirez is the only female member on this year’s team. Originally from Mexico, Janet now calls San Antonio, Texas home. She is a senior majoring in Marketing.
- Victor Hugo Ayala Garces is from Lima, Peru. His focus of study is finance.
The team has been practicing diligently for the competition. Many
hours have already been devoted to developing presentation, power point,
team, and analytical skills. While in Canada the team will prepare
and present cases each day Monday through
Wednesday. |

The four highest scoring teams, will then compete
in the semi-final round, with two teams presenting in the
finals.The
team’s coach,
Chris Schrage, will also travel with the team in March.
She is also the advisor for the International Club of
Business students and teaches in the Marketing and Management
Departments
at UNI.

• Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland
• Helsinki School of Economics, Finland
• Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand
• Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada
• Groupe Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Rennes, France
• University of Northern Iowa, United States
• Bishop’s University, Canada

the team can be sent to either the Dean’s office or the Management Department designated for the NIBS team travel expenses.
