Faculty Profiles

Name: Dan Power
Department: Management
My first major international trip was as a fellow at a NATO Decision Support Systems Advanced Study Insitute in San Miniato, Italy in September 1985. During that trip I met many DSS researchers and we spent 2 weeks in sessions and social activities. As is often the case in international travel, I had my share of adventures and made some new professional friends. Speaking very little Italian, I took the wrong train from Rome to Pisa and wound up in a seaside village. As always seems to be the case, nice people got me on another train and I made it to the conference.

I have traveled extensively and lectured at many universities. Most of my travel has been to China and Russia. Recently, I was selected as a Fulbright Senior Specialist candidate and I am curious to see where in the world that program might lead me. Also, you'll note I have taught in the UNI Hong Kong MBA program. Last summer, I was a Keynote speaker at the International Society for Decision Support Systems (ISDSS) conference in Ustron, Poland.

My international travel has been for academic conferences, teaching and fun. Currently, I am one of the five US members of the International Federation for Information Processing Working Group on Decision Support Systems. As part of that group, I have presented papers at conferences in Durham and London, England, and Bled, Slovenia.

In June 1992, I was a Visiting Scholar at University College-Dublin, Dublin, Ireland. I have been a Visiting Professor at Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark, at Hebei Teacher's University, Shijiazhuang, China, and at Moscow State Linguistic University. During June 1999, I traveled extensively in China and I was a Foreign Expert and Visiting Lecturer on Decision Support Systems and Web Technologies at a number of universities in China including: Hefei Institute of Economics and Technology, Hefei University of Technology, NanKai University, Shandong University of Building Materials, Tianjin University of Commerce, University of Science and Technology of China.
