Study Resources

Study Resources for Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory

Textbook

The text is written by N. Gregory Mankiw.  Mankiw is also the author of a principles text that many of you may have used for Principles of Macroeconomics.  Some of the topics are likely to be similar to what you saw in your principles courses, but Intermediate Macroeconomics moves faster, covers more, and uses more sophisticated models than Principles of Macroeconomics.   The text is exceptionally well written, concise, and provides interesting applications.

Chapter Summaries

These provide a way to review the material and a way to test your understanding.  If one of the summaries points is unclear, review it in the text or come to my office for help.

Key Concepts

Each chapter has a list of key terms and concepts.  As with the chapter summaries, you can use these to review and to test your understanding.

End of the Chapter Problems

These are very helpful and very relevant.  I will suggest a few from each chapter for you to work through.

Studying the text and doing at least some of suggested end of the chapter problems are very important to learning the material and doing well on the exams!

Study Guide

The study guide has chapter outlines and exercises with answers.  Although the multiple choice questions are on average somewhat easy to provide you practice, they provide one way to study for the multiple-choice questions on the exams.  You will find the exercises very helpful for mastering the material and doing well on the exam.

Text Website
The text website provides quizzes, short answer questions, flashcards, and PowerPoint presentations for each chapter.  It is very useful.

Office Hours, Appointments, and Email

I encourage you to study outside of class and to spend some time trying to master the material on your own.  However, if there is any material that you are having trouble with, please stop by during office hours, make an appointment to see me, or send me an email.  Seeking help is most useful when you have specific questions, but I can also talk to you about study strategies.
