Time-Value of Money Seminars

To ensure that our students grasp the time-value of money, a series of seminars was initiated to immerse our majors in the mathematics of interest. More than 150 Finance and Real Estate Majors participated in the first seminars in 2006.

Seminars are now offered to Finance and Real Estate Majors at the start of each semester. Students who excel in an exam at the end of the seminar are recognized by the Department of Finance as having mastered the Mathematics of Interest and the Time-Value of Money.

The mastery examination is not easy. According to Professor Richard Followill, "Performance that might warrant an A- or B in a regular class might not be considered passing on the mastery examination. Students must complete five complex time-value questions with no more than one mistake."

Materials and instruction are provided to students free of charge. All Finance and Real Estate majors are encouraged to participate during their academic careers.
