Professional Accomplishments

Dennis Schmidt first came to UNI in 1993, left briefly in 2005 to teach at Montana State University, and returned to UNI in 2008. Prior to UNI, he taught at the University of Wyoming for seven years.

Dennis currently is on phased retirement, teaching only in the spring semester. During his career, he taught a variety of tax and accounting information systems courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He is the recipient of six teaching awards and ten educational development grants. 

Dennis is an active researcher with more than 40 published journal articles and 25 conference papers or presentations. He has won four research awards and received nine research grants. He has been designated the Deloitte Professor of Accounting. His research has been published in a variety of academic, professional, and education journals, including Journal of the American Taxation Association, Journal of Information Systems Education, Advances in Taxation, Advances in Accounting Education, Journal of Legal Tax Research, The Tax Adviser, Journal of Organizational and End User Computing, Journal of Accountancy, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and several others.

International Experience

 Dennis was a visiting professor for a year at the University of Otago in New Zealand.
