UNIBusiness honored the inaugural class of the Women of UNIBusiness Hall of Fame on April 21 at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. Co-sponsored by the UNI Women in Business student organization, the event celebrated nine female UNIBusiness graduates who made a profound impact on the business community.

The focus of the first few years of the event will be on women who put the initial cracks in the glass ceiling.

Dean Leslie Wilson kicked off the event, which was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a speech, which was followed by a networking lunch. The event proceeded with the induction of each honoree. The attending inductees each gave a speech of their own.

Many of the inductees discussed how they graduated in a time when women weren’t seen as equal to men in the business workplace. They had to push for progress and work hard to be recognized.

“It was very difficult for women to even break into business, let alone be so successful at that time,” said Kate English, who helped plan the event and is the vice president of events for the UNI Women in Business student organization. “I think it's a great way to honor them. It's great to see these women who really made a mark. It's been very inspiring."

The event concluded with a special recognition of Peter Goulet, a professor emeritus of management who taught at UNIBusiness for more than 50 years, and a speech by UNI Women in Business President Hailey Popp.

After all was said and done, the inductees’ stories left those in attendance inspired to make their own impact.

“It was a truly humbling experience to be able to attend an event with so many incredible women that were a part of putting the initial cracks in the glass ceiling, especially at a time when the business world was even more male-dominated than it is today,” said Lauren Tielbur, vice president of marketing for the UNI Women in Business student organization.

“Each individual had their own story and own journey of making an impact. I was lucky to be able to network and talk to these trailblazers, and I hope that when I graduate I can make a fraction of an impact as they have.”

Congratulations to the inductees:

Jean Trainor (1975)

Brenda Clancy (1975)

Mary Pech (1972, 1979)

Patricia Fickess (1971)

Lois Iseminger (1971)

Laura Huisman (1969)

Patricia Rausenberger (1964, 1968)

Gladys Meier (1954)

Alice Hoskin Salter (1915, posthumous)
