Randy Pilkington serves as a project manager for Business and Community Services (BCS). BCS is the umbrella group for economic and community development programs at UNI. His role includes assisting the executive director with federal relations, planning projects, intellectual property management and special projects. Pilkington has been at UNI since 1987 when he was recruited to help launch the university’s economic development outreach programs. He recently retired as the BCS executive director, a position he held for the past 25 years.
Beyond his professional work, Pilkington gives back through community engagement and volunteering with local organizations. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, reading, travel with his wife, and supporting Panther athletics.

Pilkington’s areas of expertise include strategic planning, regional development, entrepreneurship, and federal relations.
Pilkington has worked in all 99 Iowa counties and guided economic development plans and projects in more than 350 Iowa communities. He served as president of Professional Developers of Iowa, served on the Iowa Department of Economic Development Board of Directors, the twenty-first Century Workforce Council, the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors, Iowa Business Council Business Education Alliance and the Iowa Innovation Council. He currently serves on the Cedar Valley TechWorks board, CAPS advisory council, serves co-chair of the UNI Research Foundation and co-chair of the UNI Sesquicentennial Celebration.
