Zhongdong (Ronnie) Chen
Associate Professor
Prior to joining the UNI faculty, Zhongdong (Ronnie) Chen was an assistant professor of finance at Carson-Newman University and finance instructor and business coach at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is also a certified Master Business Coach for Marketplace Live Business Simulations, which are widely used in undergraduate and MBA capstone courses.
Knowing students on the personal level makes Chen’s job more fun and meaningful. He likes working with students outside of class — student research projects, finance clubs, and conversations about investments and business opportunities.
Hobbies & Interests:
In his free time, Chen enjoys walking his dogs, taking photos and replacing fruit trees that keep dying on him.

Ronnie researches in the areas of banking, corporate finance, and empirical assets pricing. One focus of his research is the drivers of the risk-taking behavior in the banking industry. Another focus is the behavior of retail investors and its impact on stock demand and stock returns. Ronnie is currently studying the influence of retail investors on corporate decisions made by managers.
