Professional Accomplishments

Following graduation from law school and before joining the UNI faculty, Heidi Noonan-Day practiced law for over a decade. Her primary emphasis was in criminal law, family law, contracts, juvenile justice and appellate work, writing for and appearing several times before the Iowa Court of Appeals and the Iowa Supreme Court. She maintains her status as an active attorney and is a current member of the Iowa State Bar Association. She continues to use her law background through engagement with organizations that provide support to victims of domestic abuse.

For the University of Northern Iowa UNI Business, she has taught Legal and Social Environment of Business, Law II, Topics in Law for the M.B.A.s, Regulation Review for the CPA, and frequently assists in the MPDC Certificate Program as an instructor. She has been awarded the student-chosen CBA Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award for 2003, 2005 and 2007. She is also the Faculty Advisor for Panther Leadership Service Club, a member of the President's Disability Advisory Council, and operator of a free legal advice clinic for students and faculty.

Heidi has published in The Journal of Legal Studies Education and her work has been highlighted in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Her continuing research is in furtherance of her exploration of campus violence and liability of a university in the event of campus violence.
