James Mattingly
Associate Professor of Management
James Mattingly has 20 years’ experience in finance, marketing and operations. He teaches emergence in complex systems, organization culture, corporate social responsibility, stakeholder engagement and corporate governance at UNI. He’s an active scholar with multiple publications and is a past director of the International Association for Business and Society. Mattingly is active in faculty governance at UNI, previously as chair of the Faculty Senate and currently as chair of the UNI Faculty.
Mattingly encourages students to become disciplined critical thinkers by providing them tools and opportunities to practice them in context. He teaches upper-level and graduate students and has high expectations of them. He’s proud to hear from students who have graduated and are using some of his tools, either in their careers or in challenging graduate programs.
Hobbies & Interests
When he’s not working, he reads, cycles, or spends time with friends and family.

More than fifteen years industry experience in all major functional areas, including finance, marketing, and operations. Numerous scholarly presentations and publications in journals such as: Academy of Management Review, Business & Society, Business & Society Review, the Journal of Public Affairs, and Corporate Governance. James is a past director of the International Association for Business and Society and is an Editorial Board Member for the scholarly journal, Business & Society.
