Finance Club, United Fire Group partnership grows stronger
Recently members of the UNI Finance Club were invited to Cedar Rapids for an interactive day with prominent representatives of the United Fire Group (UFG). The company has been a longtime supporter of UNIBusiness, due to CEO Randy Ramlo being a UNI alumnus. Ramlo likes to to give back to the university by hiring as many UNI graduates as possible.
Finance Club President Mark Bruck (Finance) was one of those who participated in the outing, saying his favorite parts of the day were “getting to speak with Randy Ramlo as well as CFO Dawn Jaffray.” Bruck took particular interest in their personal journeys and the paths that led them to where they are at today. UFG investments director Bob Patten also set aside some of his time to meet with students, and was able to give Bruck an in-depth look at the inner workings of an insurance company’s investment strategy.
The excursion also served as a nice transition into the close relationship the two parties hope to maintain, notably through the new Intern for a Day program UFG has agreed to host for current UNI students. The application hiring process is a competitive one in which members of the finance club submit their resumes and a panel made up of the finance club executive team selects which four individuals will partake in the program. This benefits both the company and soon-to-be graduates, allowing each to get to know the other more personally.
According to Bruck, UFG is implementing a new internship program to match the growth within the company. UNIBusiness looks forward to seeing the continued partnership between UNIBusiness and the United Fire Group, anticipating it will be continue to be fruitful for many years to come.
