Students step on to college campuses to give them the launch pad they’ll need to become the designer, the astronaut, the doctor they’ve always dreamed of becoming. No doubt, education is a great starting point, but what happens when getting your bachelor’s degree becomes the equivalent of graduating from high school?

Many universities, including UNI, recognize the ever-growing need for students to set themselves apart, but how can these schools offer more than education? In addition to the study abroad program, countless student orgs and opportunities for internships, UNIBusiness continues to explore ways to propel our students to the top of hiring managers’ lists.

After much preparatory work, we can officially report that as of Fall of 2016, students majoring in finance with a personal finance emphasis will graduate in a position where they are qualified to sit for the Certified Financial Planning certification exam if they so choose.  These classes have recently been approved by the Certified Financial Planning (CFP®) Board, deeming that these classes satisfy the learning objectives and outcomes required by the institution to take the exam.

The CFP® certification identifies to the public that those individuals who have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients. Students now have another option to show employers they are willing to take the initiative to better themselves without putting a burden on the employer. This type of ambition leaps off a resume and greatly improves the chances of being hired.

This is a great opportunity but certainly isn’t the only one UNIBusiness offers to help our students get ahead. We have programs ranging from helping students obtain their Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, to getting a certificate in entrepreneurship. Visit by our website to see what else we might have in store for you!

UNIBusiness thanks the those who donate to the Dean's Fund for Excellence. Funds raised help pay for student organization competitions, global experiences and professional credential education.
