June 2, BCS Brief
An internal newsletter for Business & Community Services
As BCS leadership went through our Q12 review, it became clear that we were all craving more connections among BCS staff and a better understanding of what’s happening in the centers and building. I’ll send this newsletter within the first few weekdays of every month so you can stay tuned-in to BCS happenings. Of course, this means that I welcome replies to this email; please share upcoming events, things to celebrate, event/client photos, and anything else you think would be useful for our BCS audience to know.

2025 Homecoming theme is “Panthers Through Time”
The University of Northern Iowa will be celebrating “Panthers Through Time” at this year’s Homecoming, scheduled for Sept. 28 through Oct. 4. The theme pays homage to UNI’s storied past, drawing inspiration from the UNI Sesquicentennial Celebration, which will officially launch during Homecoming week.
Always a favorite, the annual parade will be held in downtown Cedar Falls on Saturday, Oct. 4, and start at 11 a.m. Email katie.kreis@uni.edu if you’d like to be on the BCS Homecoming Parade Committee and help us continue our winning streak for the fifth consecutive year!

Save a life, know where to find the new AED in BCS
This past year some of us had the opportunity to go through CPR training from former JPEC student Jacob Kurt. This included defibrillator training, which is a life-saving measure that can restart the heart. It came to our attention that the closest Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was across the street—that’s not exactly accessible in case of emergency. Now, thanks to Dean Wilson, a new AED was installed on the first floor, between the Family Business Center and Classroom 33. Does someone on your team need training? Reach out to Darcy.Wiegmann-Dally@uni.edu to put your name on the list.

Professional Development Conference Resources
On May 29, the first UNI Professional Development Conference was held in the Schindler Education Center.
Conference Theme: The Six Degrees of T.C., comparable to the six degrees of Kevin Bacon/six degrees of separation. This theme was selected to emphasize the importance of connections within our institution and, if you're looking for collaboration, you can easily find someone to assist in fewer than six acquaintance links apart. Throughout the conference we will have opportunities to connect and collaborate in addition to learning and celebrating the completion of the academic year together. Click here to view resources and materials from the event.
