From the Dean's Desk

One highlight of my first few months back at UNI has been connecting with our alumni. In my recent visits to Des Moines and Minneapolis, I heard story after story about faculty members, classes, and experiences that alumni still remember decades later. Their affection for Wilson College is deep, and so is their appreciation not only for the mentorship but also for the high standards our faculty and staff set for students. They appreciated that the focus was not on who could make it over the bar, but how many made it over the bar.

This is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of the work you do every day. That impact stays with our alumni long after they leave UNI, and it is a big part of why so many of them want to stay connected and contribute to the future of the college.

That future includes building on UNI’s strong enrollment momentum. The university welcomed its largest incoming class in several years and reached its highest total enrollment since 2020. That is exciting progress, and enrollment will continue to be an important focus for Wilson College as we build on that momentum

As I mentioned at the all-college meeting, I plan to continue listening. In the coming weeks, I’ll be visiting with each department and creating additional opportunities to meet with faculty and staff. I want to make sure I have plenty of opportunities to hear from you and better understand your perspectives on the college.

Management

Faculty members in the Department of Management continue to be highly productive in meaningful scholarly work. Their research is making notable contributions to emerging technologies and to strategic micro- and macro-level issues in organizations worldwide. For example:

Dr. Babin is broadening his influence on Human-AI interaction-related research.
Dr. Cheng’s contributions to strategic leadership and governance choices have achieved notable visibility.

Arsalan Hussain

I enjoy learning about the world through different lenses – economics, sports, current events, or conversations with people from diverse backgrounds. Curiosity has always been a big part of who I am, and I value opportunities to exchange ideas and engage in meaningful discussions.

Outside of work, I follow soccer, listen to podcasts, and spend time with my family. I especially enjoy road trips, discovering scenic routes, trying local restaurants, and creating lasting memories along the way. I have strong memories of school and college. I’m often quick to share stories when something sparks a connection.

As I join UNI, I look forward to building relationships with students and colleagues and contributing to a vibrant campus community.

Constantine Sarris-Michopoulos

I was born and raised in Athens, Greece, but have spent the past five years in Athens, Georgia. I speak three languages: English, Greek, and French.

My hobbies include fishing, golfing, listening to audiobooks, and watching sports. I taught myself to fish as a way to unwind during grad school. There have been highs like catching a tilefish in Florida last January, and lows like falling fully into a lake with my brand new AirPods on one of my first outings.

Joining UNI, I look forward to meeting new people, attending university sporting events, and contributing energy to campus life.

I’m excited to join the University of Northern Iowa and be part of a community that values teaching and learning. I look forward to building meaningful connections with students, collaborating with colleagues, and learning from the diverse experiences across campus.

Outside of economics, I’m a passionate foodie. I enjoy cooking, watching shows like MasterChef, and traveling to explore local cuisines. I also like arts and crafts, especially repurposing everyday items into creative, decorative pieces. I maintain a selective relationship with dairy — I usually avoid it, but desserts like ice cream and cheesecake often win me over. If it looks too good to pass up, I’ll probably make an exception.

I’m grateful to join UNI and excited to contribute to the campus community.
