Mike has been very involved in science education initiatives, interfacing with local middle and high school teachers and schools through various summer institutes offered by UNI.
Family:
Wife, 5 children, 4 grandchildren and two Maltese.
Ph.D. in computational and theoretical physics, 1992, Colorado State; University. B.S., Physics with Mathematics and Chemistry minors, 1986; Colorado State University.
Mike has taught physics, mathematics and astronomy since 1990 - his graduate school days at Colorado State University. Before Joining Hawkeye he was a physics professor in the UNI Physics Department (2000 – 2012), a software engineer at DisTek Integration/John Deere (2012-2014) and Professor and Chair of Physics, Geology and Engineering Technology at Northern Kentucky University (2014 – 2017). Mike is also finishing up writing a book, “Computer Simulation of Everyday Things” which is designed to get students who aren’t computer or physics-savvy doing modeling, simulation and other numerical calculations. Mike has a passion for education and investment in students and their academic life and holds various awards in teaching, research and service.
