Badge Proposal

Badges are digital credentials designed to recognize participation and achievement in co-curricular experiences. Badges are not a replacement for majors, minors, certificates or academic courses, but are a digital representation of students’ professional development and skill acquisition.

Digital badges are clickable icons and contain information such as the issuing institution, the date earned, the criteria required to earn the badge and the evidence that shows an individual has met the required criteria.  Badges can be put on social media sites, such as LinkedIn, added as a link on a digital resume, embedded in an e-portfolio, linked in an email signature, etc.

What constitutes a badge?

  • Effort - A badge earner has done something extra in order to earn a badge. Badges are not participation trophies.
  • Verification - the student’s participation is verified by the college, through participation records, a grade, an assessment of learning, etc.
  • Resume Worthy- If the activity isn’t resume worthy, it isn’t badge worthy.
  • UNI-sponsored - badges will not be created for external events/activities. The activity or event must be managed and/or hosted by UNI.

This form is to be used to submit a proposal for an activity to earn a badge. Submissions will be reviewed by the college leadership team.
