MBA FAQ
- How many credits are in the MBA Program?
The program consists of ten 3-credit classes: 30 credits in total. Our well-rounded curriculum does not require any extra specialty or emphasis courses.
- How much does an MBA cost at UNI?
Tuition for the UNI MBA is very competitive and offers the best value. With the addition of a fully online MBA program over the next year, tuition charges will vary by student depending on their situation and course load. Final rates will be posted once they are made official.
- How long does it take to complete the MBA program?
Most of our working professionals graduate in two years. Those seeking an accelerated program can complete their degree in as little as one calendar year.
There is no minimum number of classes or credits you need to take each year, giving you flexibility to complete the program at your own pace. You can take up to seven years to complete the entire program.
- How are your course offerings structured?
All of the MBA classes are eight weeks long and are offered year-round in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The Fall and Spring semesters are divided into two 8-week sessions and the summer has one 8-week session.
- What happens if I am traveling for work/am on vacation/can’t take a class when it’s offered–how flexible is the schedule?
Each of the ten classes is offered one time during the calendar year. If life takes a turn, making it necessary to miss a class at the scheduled time, you can take the course when it comes back around in the rotation.
- How do I apply?
Submit your online application here: Application | Admissions & Aid (uni.edu). In addition to the online application, we also need official post-secondary transcripts and your professional work resume.
- When can I start taking classes?
For domestic applicants, the MBA program has rolling admissions. You can begin classes at any one of these points:
- Fall First Half (traditional August start)
- Fall Second Half (Mid October)
- Spring First Half (traditional January start)
- Spring Second Half (Mid March–typically following Spring Break)
- Summer (June)
To ensure sufficient orientation support, international applicants can start in the first half of fall or the first half of spring (see application deadline information below).
- What if I am an alum of UNI?
For Alums, you will not need to submit transcripts for any degrees earned through UNI. The online application and professional work resume are the only two items needed. AND, there is no application fee!
- Do I need to take either the GRE or GMAT exam to apply?
No, neither of these exams are required for admission to the program.
- Do you offer online classes?
Yes, the MBA program does have online classes available.
- Are scholarships available?
Information about graduate assistantships and scholarships can be found here: Funding | Division of Graduate Studies (uni.edu). If available, applications for MBA Graduate Assistant (GA) job opportunities and/or tuition scholarship opportunities will become available in late fall for the following academic year (subsequent fall start). The deadline to be fully considered for a GA or tuition scholarship in an upcoming academic year (subsequent fall start) is February 1.
International Student FAQ
- Can I earn an MBA from UNI’s program while in the U.S. on a Student Visa?
As an international student in F-1 visa status, you are required to be enrolled full time, with the majority of courses being in-person instruction/delivery mode. To satisfy these requirements, we have a residential option for international students who wish to come to Cedar Falls for the campus experience
- Can an international student earn an MBA from UNI without traveling to the U.S.?
Yes, it is possible for international students to earn an MBA outside the US with online classes. In this case, no documents that support a student visa will be issued. Students must log into the virtual classroom and participate in online classes that meet one evening (per class) per week from 5:30-9:00 pm Central Time. The entire degree can be earned through online classes, but an online MBA does not qualify as a reason to obtain an F-1 visa to enter the US.
- What are the application deadlines for international applicants
The deadline for international applicants to apply for fall admission is April 1. The deadline for international applicants to apply for spring admission is September 1.
- Is proof of English proficiency required?
Yes, proof of English proficiency is required. The minimum requirements are shown here: Graduate Majors | Admissions & Aid (uni.edu)
