Transfer Students
Thinking about transferring to UNI Business? You definitely aren't alone. Around one-third of the undergraduates at UNI Business are transfer students, so you'll find plenty of opportunities to connect with people who've also decided UNI is the right place to complete their business education.
UNI Business Two-Year Plan
If you are transferring from an Iowa Community College, in most instances you can earn a degree in two years if you bring the right course credits with you. To guarantee a smooth transition, enroll in the Transfer Connection Program for advice on your course schedule after you've made the decision to attend UNI.
Requirements to enroll include:
- An Associate of Arts (AA) Degree from an Iowa Community College with 60 transferable semester hours of college credit
- Satisfy the requirements for UNI Business Admission
Along with transfer equivalents for the following lower-level Business Core courses:
- ACCT 2120 Principles of Financial Accounting
- ACCT 2130 Principles of Managerial Accounting
- MGMT 2080 Introduction to Information Systems
- ECON 1021 Decision Analytics
- ECON 1041 Principles of Macroeconomics
- ECON 1051 Principles of Microeconomics
- ECON 1011 Statistics for Business Analytics
Transferring Courses
UNI has articulation agreements with all of the Iowa community colleges. Use the Equivalent Courses drop-down box to see which business courses transfer from a particular community college. To see a complete list of ALL transferrable courses by community college, click here.
Students with an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree from a college participating in the Iowa Community College/Regents Articulation Agreement must meet all conditions of the agreement. This includes 1) earning at least 60 semester hours of credit acceptable for transfer and 2) earning a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 ("C" grades) on all credit accepted for transfer. If you meet all the requirements, you will have met UNI's Liberal Arts Core requirements, except:
- A course in non-Western cultures that must be completed at either the community college or at UNI
- UNI's Liberal Arts Core Capstone course that must be completed after transferring to UNI.
Transfer Connection Program
Students may find that there is period of transition. From incoming freshman to transfers this is true for many students changing into a new academic environment. Keep in mind that expectations in the classroom may differ from what was experienced at a previous institution. Rigor is one of the longstanding hallmarks of the College and is key to the academic and professional development of UNI Business graduates.
Prospective transfer students are encouraged to join UNI's Transfer Connection Program. The program assists students with a seamless transition from the community college to UNI by providing advising and resources from both the community college and UNI.
Seeking additional help
- Utilize UNI Business student tutors and tutors within the Academic Learning Center (ALC). These individuals are available to assist all students. Best of all, the tutoring services are free!
- The ALC at UNI offers additional support. For example students can get feedback for class papers and work on improving writing skills, or they can learn time management and subject-specific study skills.
- The academic advisors in the College can provide guidance on course load and academic planning. The advisors are located in the Curris Business Building, Rm. 5.
- Meet with professors and ask questions when unsure about a particular topic in a business class. Faculty offices are located in the business building and have office hours posted outside of their doors.

Getting Involved
Two of the best ways to meet other transfer students is to get involved and attend University events. For example, join 50 UNI student leaders as a Student Admissions Ambassador to host prospective students and campus visitors at UNI. Or join an academic student organization like the Accounting Club, Global Associates, Rho Epsilon or UNI Entrepreneurs to meet with like-minded business students.
For transfer students interested in living on-campus, check out the Living Learning Community in Shull Hull. Transfer students new to UNI can live in a supportive environment, learn from one another and collaborate in their studies. An Upper-Class Learning Community is featured in ROTH, Panther Village and Shull Hall.
New transfer students also have the opportunity to meet, network and collaborate with other new transfers and current business students through the College's Professional Readiness Program, a career and professional development training program available to all business students.
