You've got questions, we've got answers.

Everyone needs a little help from time to time, and we don't expect you to know everything. Here is a list of the most common questions we receive. If you don't find the answers you are looking for, don't hesitate to reach out to an advisor, they are here to help.

Who is my advisor?

Wilson Business provides two types of advising assistance to business majors - faculty advising and professional advising. All business students are assigned a faculty advisor from their major department. The faculty advisor provides career information and information regarding the major.

The Wilson Business professional advisors, located in CBB 5, provide more curricular and technical advising assistance. Professional advisors help business majors develop individual academic plans of study, provide assistance during registration and scheduling, change, add, drop business major(s), and minor(s). Your advisors display on your Student Center in the Advisor box. Professional Academic Advisors information.

How can I set up an appointment with a Wilson Business Advisor?

You can set up an appointment with a Wilson Business professional advisor online or by contacting our office at 319-273-2144. You can also stop by the Office for Professional Distinction in CBB 5 to schedule an appointment.

What is a Student Request form? When do I need to get a Student Request form?

A Student Request form must be completed to request an exception to University or College policy. Students should review the Student Request form to understand the specific policies and how to get the exception approved. Please work with your Academic Advisor to submit the form.

I found out I am on Academic Alert/Academic Probation what does that mean and what should I do?

For information on Academic Alert and Academic Probation visit the Registrar's Office.

How do I view my enrollment date?

Your registration date displays on your Student Center in the Enrollment Dates box. Click the details link for more information, such as the specific time and date you are eligible to register.

How do I register for classes?

For information on registering for classes visit the Registrar's Office.

How do I use the shopping Cart?

For information on the shopping cart visit the Registrar's Office and look for the bullet points labeled "Shopping Cart" and "Enroll"

What should I do if the class I need to take is full?

If the desired section of a course a student needs is closed, the student should self-register for any open section of the course. Students should place the desired section of the course in their shopping cart, and monitor it daily to see if any seats in the course become available. If seats in a desired section of a course open, students may swap themselves out of their currently registered section, and into the desired section of the course.

If all sections of the course are full, and the course must be taken during the upcoming semester, students should fill out an Add/Drop form, and gain approval from the instructor of the course, and head of the department in which the course is offered, and return the approved Add/Drop Slip to the OPD for processing.

Why am I unable to enroll in the class I want to take?

There are a number of reasons you might be having issues enrolling. You may have a hold on your student record, you may not have fulfilled the pre-requisites for the course, or it is a course section designated for non-business majors. Students should clear any holds on their student center prior to registration. To find out information about course pre-requisites or designations, students can click on the class description in the class search.

What is an Add/Drop Slip? When do I need to get an Add/Drop Slip?

An Add/Drop slip is a form used to enroll students into a course after it has been closed. Students should self-register for open courses when possible. If there is an extenuating circumstance in which a student can only take a closed course, the student should get an Add/Drop slip signed by the instructor of the course and the head of the department of which the course is offered.

Departments will determine the number of students allowed into courses, therefore approval into a closed section of a course may not be guaranteed. Students should be aware of specific dates set by the Office of the Registrar for registration policies.

How do I drop a class?

If you are dropping a class after it has started, you need to go to the Registrar's Office in Gilchrist Hall to drop in person.  This will be a W grade after the first two weeks of classes up to the middle of the semester.  Please refer to the Registrar's Office calendar for the exact date each semester.

What happens if I want to take more than 18 credit hours during a semester?

Students wishing to take more than 18 credit hours during a semester must complete a Student Request form. Students should provide justification as to why this would be beneficial, and why they believe the request should be granted. This form should be signed by the head of the department of the student's major, and by a Wilson Business Advisor. If the Student Request form is approved, the document should be sent to the Office of the Registrar for processing.

How do I transfer a course to UNI from another institution?

To transfer a course to UNI, students should request an official transcript sent to UNI Admissions. To ensure the course will transfer as a direct equivalent to a course at UNI, students should consult the transfer equivalency page. Please consult an advisor before you register for a class to verify the class will transfer.

How do I view the transfer equivalency website?
